Part 1

Fangs of Good Fortune

I don't know what happened, all I knew was the area around me was a bit cold. I felt a pounding in my head and felt very weak. As I tried to get up, but my body ached too much. I could hear something... but my senses were hindered, I could barely see or hear what was coming. I take a moment to pull myself together, my vision and hearing returning, followed by the aching from before fading. Something was nearby, a wall of sorts, it seemed to be the source of the noise. I reach for the wall, could almost touch it. After a little while, I was up, I could see and hear clearly, also my body no longer ached. The sounds were the first things I noticed, sounded somewhat like a village, I could see the wall I had been reaching for, made of wood. Looking around further I could see that there were many trees and kind of looked like a Winter area, however there was no snow... I must be to the South side maybe? I decide to take a look around to see where I was, hopefully I might find someone to ask about where I was. What I saw was a wooden wall to one side and a forest to the other, I look around and see a gate to the village, I head to it. Reaching the gate, I could see the village now, it looked a little run down, but thankfully people were there, so I enter the gates to the village.

At first I thought I would ask of my location, but that was put aside once I felt the strong chill of the cold air, I shivered from the cold. Someone put a cloth on me to warm me up, they greeted me with kind words. I thanked them and asked where I was. They kindly told me that I was in the Northern Province, this would be the first time I've been here, then again my mind was a bit hazy before. Looking up at the sky, I saw it was getting darker and the villagers then offer to give me a room to stay in for the night... But something seemed a little off, why are they being this friendly? Haven't they had guests in a long time, if so how long? I turn to them and asked about their generosity. Upon hearing my question, some of them got nervous, like I was onto something... Did they have a secret to hide? My question was quickly answered by one of them saying that I was the first guest they had in a while, not getting many. Now I wasn't a hundred percent sure about this town, but to avoid any trouble I played along, if worse comes to worse, I'll flee. I told them that I'd stay a night and they seemed rather happy, they were offering me food, though I wasn't hungry at that point. A young lady then tells me of the inn, pointing to it just down the main street, I thank her and head there. I head for the inn, but as I did, more and more of the villagers greeted me. This was starting to creep me out, name cause they looked up at me from looking at my neck as they did, only making eye contact after greeting me. I get to the inn, trying to shake off the odd feeling.

I enter the inn and was greeted by the clerk, who also looked at my neck first. "greetings traveler, plan on staying the night?" he asked me. I then suddenly realized, I woke up with nothing on me, no money or things to give them as payment. The clerk must have seen my reaction to the situation I was in, he leaned on the counter to look at me. "oh, no Eons on ya. no worries lad, you can rest the first night, on the house" He then points to the room and told me the number, I thank him and head to the room. I kept getting a feeling something was up, so I observed some of the doors to see if something was amiss. Looking down the passageway, I see that mine was at the end.

I move slowly to check the doors, they all seem well kept. I was close to the end when a bad smell hit me... smelt like blood, I slowly approached the door the smell came from, it was the one next to mine. I thought to myself whither or not to look, I check to see if anyone was looking. It was hard to see, but I couldn't see the clerk or other villagers. Using a gentle push, I slowly open the door to peek in. The smell of blood grew stronger as I peered in, I then caught a glimpse of what made the smell... the bed was covered in blood, what did these people do!? I had only just spotted the bed when I heard an "ahem" behind me, I flinched and turned around to see the clerk looking at me. "getting a little nosy are we? come now, to your room for the night lad" he ushered. I nod slowly, "right, right, okay" I replied and make my way to my room.

Opening the door to my room, I see it was clean like the others, but after what I saw in the other one, I had a bad feeling like I should not sleep in that bed. Peering out the window, I can see its nightfall. At least I'm not tired yet... I observe the room a bit to see what there was. looking around, I mainly see a neatly made cloth nest bed, a storage trunk, a couple of lit candles making the only light in the room, and a few pots and vases. Out of curiosity I look inside them, but didn't find anything. I then check the trunk, maybe someone left something, and found blood, and cross, and a note. I take the cross to look at it, then pick up the note. The cross seemed to be made from wood, it had a few spots of blood on it. I then look at the note, judging from how it was written, the person was in a hurry or something. Because of this it was hard to read it, but the only words I could read were 'blood', 'neck' and 'fangs'. I then think back to how they looked at my neck, this was bad. I put the pieces together, the overly friendly villagers, the brief staring at my neck and the blood soaked bed... I had to get out of here, but needed something to keep them at bay if I wanted to escape.

I then hear the door open and spin round, I see a pale young lady, she had pale feathers and had fangs instead of normal teeth. I knew then that she was a vampire, my guess was they were all vampires, the whole village. She saw I was wide awake and not even in bed, she seemed startled by this. "you're... not asleep!?" she panicked a bit. I shook my head, "um... nope... not really" I said, keeping the note and cross out of her field of vision. I noticed that the pale lady was fiddling with her claws, like she was a bit shy or something, "oh dear... oh dear... I-I can't attack someone who's awake... they'll fight back..." seemed she was talking to herself. She didn't want to fight me, her face turned to me, "umm... can I, uh, bite... you? maybe..." she asked me, the tone of her voice made it seem she was unsure of herself. This sort of puzzled me, she's a vampire and wants to drink my blood, but she doesn't want to fight for it and used stealth tactics to do it. I tilt my head, "why do you want to bite my neck?" I ask her, knowing what she is. "oh, umm" I saw her blushing, like we didn't expect me to be so calm about her scaring me, "well... you can, uh, see what I am now..." she looked away. "darn, I can't say it... why wasn't he asleep?..." I saw she was flustered, I then realized something... She was the lady who pointed me to the inn, "oh, why did it have to be my turn?..." I overheard say that last part, her turn? Do they take turns drinking blood?... If so, how can the blood of 1 person like me feed a whole village of vampires? I calmly ask, "you take turns draining blood?"

She jumped when I talked to her, she looked at me, "umm... y-yes?" she lets out a sigh and slumps, "we rarely get guests, so it's hard for us to feed... right now, I'm the one in town that needs to drink next" she told me this as she leaned against a wall. This was kind of sad, a village where the ones living there are low on food, it wouldn't have been so bad if they ate something... but with vampires, this was different... they needed fresh blood. I was curious about this, "how long as this been going on for?" "I'm... not too sure, I just know it's been too long" she looked at me, it must have been a long time, "I'm a bit afraid to bite, my hunger for blood may really hurt you" The thought of getting bitten on the neck would be painful... and deadly. "do all vampires drink blood from the neck or any vain?" She tilted her head when I asked that, "we prefer the neck, but any part that would bleed would also work... and don't worry about the bite hurting too much, it's the bloodlust you should worry about" Her explanation did bring up a good point, the pain is minor compared to her control of it. Just to be sure, I asked, "how blood thirsty do you get?" She thought for a moment, then explained, "it's like hunger, the longer you wait, the more you want... it just takes longer to grow... and just to say, if enough time passes and don't drink blood, we go mad with lust" I sit my hand on my chin, "when did you last drink blood?" She looked at me and placed a claw at her mouth, "umm... over a month ago... maybe more" I was surprised, "a month? how long does it normally take for one to go crazy for blood?" "from 4 to 6 months" I took note of that, "so you aren't too blood thirsty at the moment... right?" I was hoping she did have control of it. "just a little... but I can manage as long as I don't see blood" so she has better control when she doesn't see blood, which I could agree with. I noticed she moved closer to me, "does that mean... you'll let me feed on you?" she asked. I thought about it, I take a deep breath, then look her in the eyes, "alright... I'll let you have some of my blood" I hold up my hand, "but you must leave enough for me to rest easy and able to make my leave in the early hours before the others see me" She nods, happy to hear I would feed her, I let her get close, if she drains me dry I'll regret doing this.

She sniffs my neck... but then suddenly backs off, I remembered I had the cross in my paw, "oh, right... I found this" Upon seeing the cross, she retreats back, "umm... you should get rid of that" She pointed at it, shaking in fear... for some reason it was heavier than before, "okay" I throw the cross to the side. Once I dropped the cross, she got up close and checked my paw, it felt numb... why though? "oh good, no burns" she said, I then thought how can that thing burn me? She then turned to my neck, sniffing it before giving one spot a lick. I shivered as she did, I should pay attention to her actions, if she tries anything, I will grab the cross. She starts caressing my neck, still licking that one spot. Not sure why, but I felt relaxed as she did, sort of entering a trance. Suddenly I felt her bite my neck, but it was only that of a pinch. I grit my teeth at that, slowly calming down to avoid a panic attack. Something I noticed was the way she drank the blood from my neck... it was slower, not like other vampires who are more violent with it. This wasn't as bad as I suspected, she soon stops and takes her fangs out. She licked the mark where her fangs were and I was feeling light headed from the loss of blood. "how do you feel now?" I say slowly. She smiled at me and coos, "much better now, thank you... you rest easy now, okay? and don't worry too much about us vampires here... we're all nice, so don't be too worried" she backed away as I lay down. Before leaving, she laid a blanket on me, closing the door on the way out. I never got her name... maybe in the morning and fall asleep in the bed.
